Entry Level 1, Term 1, 2012
Term 1 commences 16th January, 2012. Evening EL1 (beginners) classes are scheduled on Thursdays, 6:30 pm, East Hawthorn, and Fridays, 6:30 pm, Flemington. A daytime EL1 class will be held on Thursdays at midday in East Hawthorn. Contact dianne@adultballet.com.au for enrolment details.

Former Australian Ballet artist, Jacinta Christos, joins the Elancé staff
Following her role as guest teacher for pointe technique and the Corps de Ballet workshop, Ms Christos now joins the Elancé staff. Most notably she will teach the PL6 (Advanced) class at East Hawthorn in term 1, 2012. Contact dianne@adultballet.com.au for enrolment details.

Term 4 commences 26th September. Entry Level 1 classes confirmed for Wednesdays, 8:00pm – 9:30pm at Flemington, Saturdays, 11:30am – 1:00pm at East Hawthorn.

Pointe class in Term 4
Jacinta Christos, former Australian Ballet artist, returns to Elancé! Ms Christos will teach a pointe class for students at PL2 level and above on Fridays, 8:00pm at the Flemington studio.

30th June, 2011 - Introducing the Ballet Basics class
Suitable for those with no prior ballet experience. Incorporates the basic fundamentals of ballet with warm up and stretch. Students may commence at any time during term. This class is not a prerequisite to commencing Entry Level 1

Contemporary workshop for experienced dancers

Contemporary workshops on Sunday 17th October 2010
Elancé will conduct two Contemporary dance workshops on Sunday 17th October, each of three hours duration. The workshop for beginners will commence at 9:30am and conclude at 12:45pm (15 minute break at 11:00am). The afternoon workshop caters to experienced dancers and will commence at 1:45pm, concluding at 5:00pm (15 minute break at 3:15pm). Please contact Dianne for pricing and registration.
New Entry Level 1 Class 2010
A new Entry Level 1 class will commence on Saturday 4th September at 12:30 pm in the East Hawthorn studio. Please contact us to reserve a place in the class and the 11:00 am briefing beforehand.
“Ballet Boys” workshop 2010
A unique workshop to focus on the male approach to ballet training with content weighted to the strengths of the male dancer. Sunday 29th August, East Hawthorn studio 10:30 am – 1:45 pm. Bookings essential.
Character classes at Elancé! 2010
Character dance is a dynamic, fun class which encompasses traditional steps, disciplines and cultures from European countries such as Russia, Ukraine, Hungary and Poland. Many traditional classical ballets including Swan Lake, Nutcracker and Coppelia feature wonderful character dance. This style of class complements classical ballet training for its turns, extensions, rhythmic beats and wonderful use of the upper body.
The classes will be taught by Ms Peggy Kulhawec, an accomplished Character teacher and performer. She was a member of the Bayda Cossacks professional concert tour of the USA in 1985, a member of the semi-professional troupe between 1984 and 1995, and Artistic Director of Taisa Ukranian Dance Ensemble from 2000 - 2008. Peggy's knowledge and experience of this art form is extensive, and her passion is infectious!
The classes will be held at the Oakleigh studio on Wednesday nights, commencing 14 th April. No prior character dance experience is required for either class. A beginner level class will take place from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm. This will suit students from EL1 to PL1 levels. A class for experienced dancers will take place from 8:00 pm to 9:30 pm. It will suit dancers from PL2 level to Intermediate.
Floor Barre class in 2010
A new Floor Barre class will replace Body Conditioning in 2010. It is also a mat-based class but with a very direct connection to barre work, strength building and improving alignment to further your development as a dancer. Suitable for all class levels, 11:30 – 12:30, Saturdays, East Hawthorn. Book in now and bring your own mat!
7:00 am Pilates!
From Wednesday 20th January a 7:00 am Pilates mat class will be held in the East Hawthorn studio. Enrolments now being taken.

New Barre Plus Beginners 2010
An hour long beginners ballet class with no allegro (jumping) component. Suitable for older students or those with physical limitations. No experience required.

Australian Ballet Seminar
On Saturday 22 nd November, the Australian Ballet will host a seminar exclusively for students of Elancé. The topic is, “Beyond technique – developing artistry in the ballet class” , and will be conducted by Mr Colin Peasley, Education Manager, and Ms Noelle Shader, Ballet Mistress and Rehabilitation Facilitator. On Tuesday 16th September Dianne Harrison was interviewed on “The Conversation Hour”, ABC radio 774. Interest in adult ballet is increasing and as a leader in the field, Dianne was pleased to have the opportunity to speak about Elance to a national audience. With Leo Sayer as the other guest, it was quite an interesting hour of radio!

We are delighted to announce that Timothy Harbour will be joining Elancé in term 3! At the end of 2007 Tim retired as Senior Artist with the Australian Ballet and is now a freelance choreographer and teacher. Tim will conduct a 10 week course in pas de deux at the Footscray studio on Tuesdays at 8:00 pm. It is a privilege to offer this course under the tutelage of such a respected member of the ballet community.
19th May, 2008 - New Entry Level Class
In response to the many requests for a new Entry Level 1 (beginners) class, we are establishing another class at our Hawthorn venue. It will commence on Saturday 24th May, from 3:30 pm to 5:00 pm. Places are filling quickly so book now!

6th March, 2008 - Ballet baby news!
I'm delighted to announce that both Helen Penna and Belle McDonagh of the Elance teaching staff welcomed their new babies recently. Helen gave birth to a gorgeous baby boy, Alessandro, on 11th February, and Belle's beautiful daughter, Imogen, arrived on 5th March. Both babies are absolutely adorable and photos will be included in the upcoming newsletter.
